SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Make no mistake about it, the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement isn't anti-child, it's more like anti-human.
The VHE is dedicated to phasing out the human race in the interest of the health of the Earth, founder Les Knight told Wednesday's San Francisco Chronicle.
With 16,000 people born per hour and a current global population of 6.5 billion, there are already more than enough people on the planet, Knight said.
A 1994 study concluded a single person born in the 1990s would be responsible during a lifetime for 22 million pounds of liquid waste and 2.2 million pounds each of solid waste and atmospheric waste, the newspaper said. He or she will have a lifetime consumption of 4,000 barrels of oil, 1.5 million pounds of minerals and 62,000 pounds of animal products that will necessitate the slaughter of 2,000 animals.
"Wherever humans live, not much else lives," Knight said. "It isn't that we're evil and want to kill everything -- it's just how we live."
Knight, who had a vasectomy at age 25, emphasizes VHE likes kids and says many of its members are parents as well as children.

Some friends of mine, a married couple (now divorced), were keen to share their views on reproduction with me. Basically, they viewed raising children as a barbarian act and they never ceased to smear the practice. They considered their dog as their son.
Ironically, I thought their views on reproduction were unnatural and their owning of a dog to be animal slavery (animals should be free not locked up by humans).

don't forget kuhnkat now. decadence didn't start in s.f. i was born and reared in san diego nearly fifty years ago. i have no recollection of where it started, but remember it being everywhere from an early age. how do those things get started and how do you unstart them? it's like that line in a peter frampton song, "you can't erase a dream, you can only wake me up." just try unremembering something.

kuhnkat - i never thought of using tea - my goodness you are a genious! i love coffee and am on my fifth espresso machine i'm ashamed to say and now our 13 year old daughter has the habit too. but they are now saying it is good for you. must be something to it because i am as healthy as a newborn - have been to the doctor only a handful of times in the last nine or ten years.

i feel as though i've been serenaded. and by the creator of the song, no less. what a supremely grand way to end a beautiful day. and as i'm sure you've gathered, i expend my freedom as it wells up in me, never to be full and never to run out. thank you for this freedomnow. i will refer to it often - and if you're pulling a fast one on me, just know i do not get even - i surpass - that is one of my favorite nancisms.
I just watched an incredible documentary, "Paper Clips", on HBO. Now, keep in mind, MZ is not easlily choked up, but this really got to me. If any of you reading have seen it, please share with me your thoughts, and for those who haven't seen it, it's a MUST.
A quick summary: It is a documentary set in a small town in Tennessee about a high school that starts a class project attempting to collect 6 million paper clips, one for each Jewish person killed by the Nazis. The project grows larger than life, and becomes something amazing.
Watch it.
madze - i saw an expose on this the other day in some magazine i subscribe to - could be the week and found it compelling to say the least. i would like to see it, but we do not have secular satellite. we have skyangel, which is 36 faith based (judeo/christian) channels, at least half of which are music and talk radio. hbo puts alot out on dvd or video and we will be looking for it - if you get word on how i may get it please let me know. i hear it is "must see" t.v. i am always surprised when something this enlightening is put to the airwaves.
how much worse can it get tazz? i bet you ask yourself that on a minute to minute basis in california. there is something all the money in the world cannot buy - it is called "peace of mind". i have had much and i've had little - i didn't realize how much i had until i saw how little i needed. you be good now.
nanc, I especially was thinking of you when I made that comment. You see, it was a town of Christians most of whom had never even met a Jew, but the classroom project braught the whole town deeply together. I can tell you that, knowing your affection for the Jewish people, you will really appreciate seeing it.
I do believe it is out on video now, so you certainly MUST see it. You'll never think of a paper clip the same way again.

i have never thought of a paper clip as a paper clip first. you have no idea how many necklaces, earrings, or bracelets my children have made me with paperclips. not to mention dog collars, measuring rods, picture hangers, loop-d-loops, bread bag ties, this color for this friend, that color for that friend. picture hangers, bookmarks, the list is endless.
there is NO depth and NO height to which a child will not go to prove a point. just remember, it starts at let's say 10 months of age and up. fill your child with wonder and your life will be continually filled with wonder. my own are 33, 14, and 13 and i could not be more puffed up and filled with joy as the days they were born. first and foremost is honesty - never, ever lie to them, even if you believe it's for their own good. just so you know, two of mine are still ticked at me regarding the easter bunny and the tooth fairy.
i am so happy you got to see this movie and i will be looking for it for our family. you and mama-z are so fortunate to have a small face to look into each and every day.
