Supreme Nominee Roberts

President Bush will nominate John G. Roberts for the Supreme Court. How does it play out? Will the Leftists be pissed off, or will the right feel betrayed? The early line according to the talking heads is that he'll be a good pick from the Right and a fillibuster likely to happen from the Left.

How does the Madman feel? Anything that pisses off the Left is probably a good thing, so, until I hear a reason to believe otherwise, I'm standing behind my fellow ex-Buffalonian to be a solid choice.

Here's a little checklist for what Roberts should be:

  • Against affirmative action
  • Against partial birth abortion and pro parental notice
  • Pro death penalty
  • Opposed to gay marriage
  • Opposed to citing international law for domestic law
  • Strict constitutional conservative
  • Pro God in the pledge
  • anti criminal/terrorist rights
  • anti multi-culturalism
  • Pro patriot act

There, that's a few for starters. Now, I'm itching for a fight with the leftist progressive arabist Democrats, so if all goes well we are going to nuke Barbara Boxer, Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the pro criminal, UN loving rabble once and for all.

I like the pick...it seems like the kind of guy who has the skills to go unrefuted and the conservative pedigree to appeal to the Bush constituency. Will the Left blow a gasget? YES! That is going to happen no matter what, but I'd be surprised if the Left takes it to a fillibuster. Time will tell.

Time will tell indeed, GG. I am not so certain the dems will let this go through as you seem to be. I saw Charlie Schumer having a little fit about the pick, and the extremist Left groups NARAL and NOW have already started flooding the net with their protests and smears. I expect the Dems to answer to the radicals and try blocking Roberts with a vengance.

MZ,

I agree...anything that pisses off the Left has got to be RIGHT!

I agree,
I'm glad it didn't turn out to be that Dame who was first suggested.

I'm going to tune in to Rush 24/7 today (and even download the show), and listen to what he has to say.

(For you people in Rio Linda, Rush 24/7 is the Rush Limbaugh show for paid subscribers)

Your post and the responses epitomize the right's narrow view of liberals. Of course certains groups like NARAL will gripe (as they should - given their constituency), but the general tone has remained very civil and I'd be surprised if there is any serious opposition mounted. You folks would just love the fight, but its not gonna happen this time. And I think you might just wind up realizing this is yet another huge screw-up from the Bush administration as far as the right's concerned.

John Roberts simply doesn't have the experience to be on the Supreme Court. He is an entry level judge, and we are looking at giving him a guarenteed job for life.

I do admire his career as a lawyer, but being a lawyer is very different from being a judge. A judge must have the temperment to isolate personal feelings from the arguments given. A judge must ferret out the facts spun up in a web of rhetoric. I am not sure that John Roberts has been a judge long enough to prove himself. He should continue his current judgeship and reapply at the next opening.
