NJ to Ortho Jews: Stay Out

Hmm... In a small town in New Jersey a local synogogue wants to expand its facilities to house a high school for Orthodox boys. The locals in the town are outraged and have a petition calling for the Mayor, Neil Marko, who is a trusty at the synogogue, to resign. The locals have made a loud and clear statement: We don't like Orthodox Jews and we want them out!

Such bigotry and anti-Semitism must have all the Jews of the community up in arms, right? I mean, to be this hostile towards Jews is despicable, isn't it? Well, not so fast.

Many of those in the drive to ban the Jews and force out the mayor are Jews.

What? You're kidding me, right MZ?

Nope, the local assimilated Jews hate their religious brethren, hate the Mayor for being among them, and want them to be banned. Sick? Yes. Surprising? Well...

Why have secular Jews become so hostile to the orthodox? I would think they all would still stand up for each other. I guess the liberalism has gone to their heads!

Confused Gentile,

The assimilated Jews are often really liberals of Jewish heritage. In other words, liberalism is their defining ideology and religion, while Judaism is more of an an ancestry or blood line.

Many liberal Jews look upon the Orthodox, or religious, as the enemy. They see religious observance as outdated and harmful because it so contradicts the liberalism they practice so zealously. Many liberals see religious Jews as being no better than moslems and don't want any part of them in their backyard.

Most modern Orthodox Jews find this befuddling and frustrating, as they share the modern world so vibrantly with their secular brethren, while the Hareidi (ultra Orthodox) tend to ignore the liberal Jews altogether.

Hope this helps!

Assimilated Jews should not even be considered Jews. They should just be considered nomads.

There should be some way for the solidarity orthodox Jews (in upper levels of society) to put socio economic, or other political forms of preasure on those turn coats to shut the F_ up, or get out of Judaism.

But is there the solidarity, or is everyone (in the Orthodox community) looking out for their own self intrest enough not to care?

Bill, assimilated Jews should most definitely be considered Jews. Just because one may be in a secular, anti-Jewish mode today does not mean tomorrow or the next day will be that way. People change, life is a journey, and sometimes the child of an anti-Religious Jew surprises the hell out of their parents and friends and becomes religious.

I know, Bill, because that's my own story. ALL Jews, religious and secular alike, are still Jews. That said, Bill, while under the influence of liberalism all people become mentally ill, so we just have to understand them for where they are at the moment and hope they don't do too much damage.

Shabbat Shalom,

I understand what you mean...but what if they won't, or don't change.

Yes life is a journey, but their are many saboteurs, and enemy ambush kill zones along the way.

I still think they (liberal Jews) should be socially quarantined from "good Jews" until they become reformed in their thinking, by outreach, or by self realization. Until then they are like a social cancer spreading their liberal propaganda to the naive youth (seeking "the truth").

Loyalty among Jews should not extend to the Jew in name only. If one has a rotted limb, one amputates it.
